PM Modi to launch 5 upgraded railway stations in Gujarat’s Vadodara

Must Read

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will virtually inaugurate five newly redeveloped railway stations in Gujarat’s Vadodara division on May 22. These include Dakor, Karamsad, Derol, Kosamba, and Utran stations. The redevelopment is part of the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, which aims to modernize over 1,300 stations across India by improving passenger facilities, accessibility, and connecting stations to the local culture.

Each of these five stations has been upgraded with a focus on the needs of the region and daily passengers. Dakor station, which sees many pilgrims visiting the Shree Ranchhodrai Temple, now includes improved facilities for religious travellers. Karamsad station features a wall dedicated to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel’s contributions. Derol station’s design reflects the style of nearby temples due to its location close to the Pavagadh pilgrimage area. Utran station, which serves commuters near Surat, has been upgraded to support increasing passenger traffic.

These developments are a part of the Indian Railways’ larger plan to enhance the travel experience through better infrastructure and efficient services.

Vadodara: A key railway hub

Vadodara plays an important role in India’s western railway network. It lies on the busy New Delhi-Mumbai route and serves as the headquarters of the Vadodara railway division, under the Western Railway zone. The station manages over 150 trains daily and connects major cities such as Mumbai, Delhi, Ahmedabad, Jaipur, and Howrah.

The division covers over 4,400 kilometres of rail lines, including districts like Anand, Bharuch, Narmada, and parts of Surat. It also handles major stations such as Bharuch, Anand, Godhra, and Chhayapuri.

Along with passenger services, the division is vital for transporting goods like chemicals, fertilisers, textiles, and petroleum, especially from industrial areas like Bharuch and Ankleshwar. Ongoing upgrades under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme are expected to further improve services, safety, and passenger convenience across the division.
